The Network of Italian Core Facilities (NICo)<\/strong> was set up on the initiative of a group of Italian Universities and Research Institutes<\/strong> that had already individually established centralized technological platforms with highly specialized personnel<\/strong>. As of 2021, these Institutions developed a project which was strongly committed towards collaborative and open innovation<\/strong>.
Since its initial setting, NICo’s objective<\/strong> has been to ensure widespread access to Core Facilities services<\/strong> for the scientific community and enterprises, with the aim to promoting the implementation of cutting-edge projects<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2021 Initiative | Webinar<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative that led to the establishment of NICo began with the organization of four Webinars<\/strong> designed to facilitate interaction and exchange among Institutions<\/strong> already operating in the national landscape.
During these occasions, sixteen centralized Core Facilities were introduced<\/strong>, by detailing their key characteristics<\/strong>, missions, and governance structures<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A major source of inspiration for building a national network<\/strong> came from participating in CTLS (Core Technologies for Life Sciences<\/a>)<\/strong> conferences and activities<\/strong>. The initiative received significant endorsement through the participation of CTLS president, Julia Fernandez Rodriguez<\/strong>, in the first Webinar<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

2022 Kick-off Meeting @Trento | Memorandum of Understanding | NICo-BBMRI.it Agreement<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Kick-off Meeting of the Network of Italian Core Facilities <\/a> was held in Trento on June 6, 2022<\/strong>.
During the event, the eleven member institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding<\/a><\/strong> , and NICo was formally established<\/strong>.
Another key objective<\/strong> of the inaugural meeting was to raise awareness within the Italian scientific and academic community<\/strong> about the role of Core Facilities<\/strong> and their critical importance<\/strong> in research<\/strong> and innovation<\/strong> ecosystems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2022, NICo also entered into a Collaboration Agreement with the BBMRI.it Research Infrastructure<\/strong> in the framework of the PNRR project \u201cStrengthening BBMRI.it\u201d<\/a><\/strong>.
Under this project, which aims to bolster the Italian biobank network<\/strong>, NICo\u2019s role is to leverage its expertise to enhance the value of biological samples<\/strong> provided by BBMRI.it, through sample characterization activities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2023 Website & Logo | First National Congress of Core Facilities @Milan<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After launching the website\u2019s first version<\/strong> and designing Nico\u2019s logo<\/strong>, the First National Congress of the Italian Core Facilities Network<\/a><\/strong> was held in 2023. Hosted by the University of Milan on March 30 and 31<\/strong>, the Congress brought together all member Institutions<\/strong>. It served as a platform to discuss future challenges and opportunities, strengthen connections<\/strong>, and enhance visibility among stakeholders<\/strong> from both the research community and enterprises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
